My Fellow COMBAT Players
come to ARMAs with me one more time!
Prince Python Sea Blog

My worthy comrades, as we thrash about in our ARMA game rooms and dream of ARMA2 new hopes of that reality appearing soon begin to appear! We hear encouraging inklings through the din of shell bursts.

ArmA 2 is set in the near future, 2009, in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus (literally "Black Russia", a play on Belarus which means"White Russia"). Bohemia Interactive revealed during E3 that the game will havea "roleplaying feel to it"; with in-game events affecting your character as wellas the entire campaign. An example would be terrorizing noncombatants and losingtheir trust, thus encouraging them to give away valuable information to enemy forces. A map the size of 240 square kilometers has been mentioned in a recent interview with a BI representative. ArmA 2 is expected to be released in 2009.

Well it may not be here for turkey day but it is good to hear the project is alive, OK.  Adding to all that, we have a game engine that has been in constant development for the past 10 years. The army literally uses this technology to simulate real battle feild situations. Sadly enough, that's what scares most people off of ARMA. Seeing as there is a good chance that you will die a bunch before you get your first shot off, most people view it as too hard. Although it certainly isn't easy, if you know about real tactics and strategies you may be better off. And seeing as the AI will be reading right out of a tactical playbook, you knowing what the plays are could do a lot to help keep you alive.

As with it's predecessor, I'm afraid you Pirate types will find this game will neglect boats, maybe throwing in a PT boat and some speed boats. Personally, I think it would be more cool and realistic if I could call in fire support from a nearby allied cruiser or battleship. I also think that boat-on-boat confrontations would be fun. I mean how can you do a blockade run without a worthy pirate vessel?

I'm also hoping they add a real cargo plane to parachute out of, not everyone can ride in billion dollarblack hawks (okay, they can, but that doesn't mean they should).

All in all I have high hopes for ArmA II and am counting the months till '09, when the folks at BI will have to give us a real release date.

Keep that red dot on the freedom fighters head, and say hi to my friends at black water. Always remember, hell wouldn't be bloody without people like us.  Until then, be at ease, and please cover your flanks (man, no one wants to see that).

Sincerely,

~ Prince Python
